Imagine the sensation of discovering this event live. The sound of the 12 strokes of midnight, the atmosphere at Puerta del Sol, the contagious happiness surrounding you, the fireworks…
It’s an unforgettable experience. If this year you decide to live it from up close, take into account our following suggestions:
1.Go with enough time. Many people go to Puerta del Sol that night, where the security measures are very strict. If you want to avoid any last minute nerves, the ideal thing is for you to go with enough time.
2.Take only the essentials. In spite of the security measures, there’s a lot of people, and sometimes pickpocketing can happen. Be careful and don’t carry any valuables to avoid any annoyances.
3.Don’t forget the grapes! Remember to take 12 grapes with you! And if you don’t like the seeds, take them already prepared. If you don’t have any grapes, don’t worry, there’s many shops around where you will be able to buy a prepared kit for that night.
New Year’s Eve with kids.
If this New Year’s you’re travelling with kids, you will also be able to enjoy many plans in the city for everyone.
Start with a walk around Plaza Mayor, so you can buy some nice costumes. In this time of the year, there’s many Christmas markets throughout the city, the most important one being the one in Plaza Mayor. You’re surely find the most enjoyable style for each and one of you.
You can continue your afternoon with a walk in the centre and enjoying the Christmas lighting. In this time, Madrid is filled with lights and garlands, and joyful Christmas figurines.
Also the shopping centres in the city make the most out of this time to entertain the smallest ones of the house with activities and shows. So… if you still have some strength, go to one of them so your children can have even more fun.
And what about dinner? You can choose amongst one of the thousands of restaurants of the city, where you will find children’s menus and even magic and comedy shows after the strokes of midnight, or you can look for an alternative activity. There’s thousands of options!
For example, a different plan that your children will love is going to see the Lion King’s play. The Lope de Vega theatre hosts a special edition on December 31st at 10:30 PM. The ideal plan to enjoy with your family. The play has a duration of 2h 45 minutes with a small recess.
Another great option is the New Year’s Eve Gala at Santiago Bernabeu, for the whole family. It has adult and children’s menus, and after the grapes there’s a party for all ages.
