Published on May 7, 2019 by Madrid SmartRentals

If you enjoy football, this is surely a date you’re well aware of. The much-anticipated Champions League Final takes place in Madrid the next 1st of June in Estadio Metropolitano.

This will be the fifth time that Madrid hosts the Champions League Final, and the seventh time that it takes place since the competition started in 1955.

A great number of fans are expected to visit the city these days to enjoy the sporting event, and have fun in the Spanish capital. Madrid is an ideal place to get away for the weekend, as it offers activities to suit everyone’s taste: sportive, cultural, leisure, etc. If you’re thinking of coming to Madrid in those dates to feel the football’s thrill, and enjoy the city, from SmartRental Collection we want to help you by giving you all the details of the 2019 Champions League Final, and a wide variety of recommendations on what to do in the city, so you can make the most out of your time in the city.

Estadio Metropolitano of Madrid

The Estadio Metropolitano is currently owned by the Club Atlético de Madrid team, one of the two main football teams in the city, and three-time winner of the UEFA Europa League.
Designed originally as an athletics stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano submitted to the Olimpics candidacies of the city in 2012, 2016 and 2020. In the end, these candidacies didn’t make headway and the Club and the Local Government made a deal in which the Club changed its facilities (until then, the Estadio Vicente Calderón) to this new stadium.

The stadium has a capacity of up to 68,000 spectators, and it has been designed under the premises of accessibility for persons of restricted movements, a high security, and sustainability thanks to the solar panels.

How to get to the stadium

The stadium is located in the Rosas neighbourhood, in the San Blas-Canillejas district. Arriving there is quite easy, as it’s located in the northeast of the city, just by the M-40 and very close to the Madrid-Barajas airport.

With public transport, you can arrive using line number 7 of the metro, just until you reach the Estadio Metropolitano stop, as well as a wide variety of buses that run through different points of the city, and with stops very close to the stadium, such as line 28, line 38, line 140, and line E2.

You can also arrive by car, both in taxi or private vehicle. However, it’s highly recommended to use public transport as usually you’ll encounter a lot of traffic in the match days, and there’s only 3,000 parking spaces (that can only be used with previous reservation)

If you’re staying in our Gran Vía apartments, you’ll have it really easy to get to the stadium. Get line number 5 of the metro in the Callao station until you reach Pueblo Nuevo stop, and then change to line number 7, that will leave you outside the stadium.
